JEAN TROUT Jean Trout, the owner of The Mitre Box, graduated from the Schuler School of Fine Arts in 1974. Desiring to use all the art skills she had learned in art school, Jean decided to open a picture framing business and named it The Mitre Box. She and her husband had been making frames for Jean and her artist friends for several years, so launching a custom framing business was a natural. She continues to enjoy the creativity and challenges that come with helping her customers select the right materials for their varied artwork. She also enjoys the woodworking and technical skills needed to bring the designs to life. Jean strives to maintain a welcoming and informative atmosphere for her customers, always willing to hear their stories, discuss their artwork, and share her knowledge. In other words, she continues to do what she feels she was intended to do. |

ANNE KEYSER For 16 years, Anne has been the friendly voice on the phone when you call The Mitre Box. With a background in accounting, she has brought her unique and essential organizational skills to her job as office manager. After orders are taken, Anne keys all of the information into the computer, orders supplies, keeps track of progress, checks in deliveries to make sure all is correct, distributes the work to the framers, calls customers, pays bills, sends bills, and waters the plants. Anne is the person who knows where everything is in the shop and at what stage of completion. Her cheerful disposition helps to keep the warm, friendly atmosphere that customers experience as soon as they walk in the door of The Mitre Box. Anne is married and is the mother of five children, 5 grandchildren, and a Schnauzer named "Peppermint". |

ANTHEA SMITH Anthea (it's Welsh) has been a member of The Mitre Box staff for over five years. She is a graduate of MICA and has worked as a graphic designer, professional artist, and writer - among other things. Fortunately she is now our framer / engineer / artist and sometimes miracle worker. Anthea is able to look at any complex frame design and figure out what is needed to complete the job. At The Mitre Box, we have always believed that "if it can be designed, it can be framed". Anthea helps us to prove that every day. Anthea is married to a graphic designer / teacher and they have collaborated on three books about Maryland which they illustrated with antique postcards. |

DEBORAH FOX Deborah joined The Mitre Box staff three years ago, and brought with her an extensive career in retail, as well as a fine tuned instinct for design and color. She brings this talent to bear when working with customers. She guides them through their color selections helping them to make decisions about mat and frame colors, knowing how important this is to the overall design of the frame package. Deborah has become a welcome and integral member of the framing staff at The Mitre Box and another expert designer for our customers. Deborah is married and the mother of 3 children. |
